About the Image Converter
Turn images between PNG, JPG and WebP right in the browser — no software, no upload, no signup. It covers the everyday mismatches: a portal that accepts only JPG, a design tool that exported WebP nobody else can open, a PNG screenshot too heavy to email. Load the file, tap the target format and download; pixel dimensions are preserved throughout.
Choosing the right target format
Each of the three formats earns its place for different reasons:
- JPG — the universal currency. Government forms, exam portals and ancient office software accept it; choose it whenever compatibility outranks everything else.
- PNG — lossless and supports transparency. Convert to it when you need pixel-perfect screenshots, logos or images that will be edited further.
- WebP — modern browsers' native format, dramatically smaller than both alternatives at similar quality, and it supports transparency too. Ideal for websites and personal archives, riskier for old portals.
How conversion handles transparency
Formats differ in whether they can store see-through pixels at all, so the tool handles the mismatch sensibly. Converting a transparent PNG or WebP to another alpha-capable format (PNG or WebP) preserves the transparency untouched. Converting to JPG, which has no alpha channel, composites the image onto solid white first — so a logo cutout becomes logo-on-white rather than turning black, which is exactly what print shops and most forms expect anyway.
Quality and fidelity notes
Conversion happens through the browser's canvas at full resolution, so dimensions never change. Moves into lossless formats (anything to PNG) are effectively perfect copies. Moves into lossy formats (JPG, WebP) re-encode at a high-quality setting chosen to be visually indistinguishable from the source — file size may drop sharply, especially from PNG, because PNG's lossless storage is inherently bulky. One quirk of raster conversion: an animated GIF becomes a single still frame, since none of the three output formats carry animation.
Everyday examples
Convert HEIC-free phone shots of documents from PNG to JPG before uploading to a recruitment portal. Convert a designer's WebP deliverable to PNG for a client still on older Windows. Convert a bulky PNG screenshot to WebP to slip under an email attachment limit. Each takes seconds, and since processing is local, sensitive documents — marksheets, ID scans, contracts — never touch anyone's server.
