Everything you encode is baked directly into the black-and-white modules — there is no middleman server resolving a short link before forwarding your visitor. That permanence cuts both ways. Printed codes never rot, and nothing logs who scanned when; but the destination is frozen forever too, so a URL that later dies takes the code with it. Point codes at stable destinations, and regenerate the image if the underlying content ever needs to change. Any text encodes, including conventions phone cameras recognize natively: a Wi-Fi string in the form WIFI:S:yournetwork;T:WPA;P:yourpassword;; prompts the scanner to join that network, and vCard contact text offers to save a card on scan.

Error correction, briefly

QR codes carry built-in Reed-Solomon redundancy so damaged or partially obscured codes still scan. Four levels exist — roughly 7, 15, 25, and 30 percent damage tolerance — trading data capacity for resilience. This generator uses the medium level, a solid default that shrugs off scuffs and moderate obstruction while keeping module counts manageable for typical URLs. Higher levels buy more durability for stickers and outdoor signage at the cost of denser patterns; lower levels suit pristine screen displays. Capacity itself tops out near seven thousand numeric characters, but readability degrades long before that limit — treat a few hundred characters as the practical ceiling for anything humans will scan in one try.

Scannability tips

Color choices matter as much as size. Mid-tone palettes that look tasteful on screen often fail outdoors or under fluorescent light; when in doubt, near-black on white survives every camera. Screen display forgives more than print, where ink bleed can close the gaps between modules on small codes. And if a code must survive rough handling — tool cases, shipping crates, machinery panels — step up the print size rather than leaning on error correction alone.

• Keep contrast high: dark modules on light backgrounds scan most reliably — invert only with care.
• Preserve the quiet zone: the blank border helps cameras find the code's edges, so do not crop it away.
• For print, aim for at least two centimeters square; posters and packaging can afford much larger.
• Shorter content means bigger, easier-scanning modules — shorten long URLs before encoding.
• Test the final artifact with a real phone camera before committing it to print.
