About the Remove Duplicate Lines

Turn a messy repeated list into a clean set of unique lines in one pass. Merge mailing exports, combine keyword research files, tidy log entries, or de-dupe survey responses — just paste one item per line and watch the cleaned result appear side by side, updating live as you edit. Four toggles handle the details that usually force manual cleanup: trim stray spaces, ignore letter case, drop empty lines, and sort alphabetically. A counter tells you exactly how many duplicates were removed. Everything processes locally in your browser, free, with no signup.

Everyday jobs it handles

Duplicate lines creep into almost every workflow that touches lists. Marketing teams merge newsletter CSVs from two sources and mail the same subscriber twice. SEOs concatenate keyword exports from multiple tools and spend hours deduplicating by eye. Developers paste package lists or config entries that drifted out of sync. Event organisers combine hashtag and attendee lists from two registration forms; shop owners merge product SKU exports across catalogues; researchers blend bibliography notes. In each case the fix is identical: paste the column or list, let the tool collapse repeats, copy the unique result back out.

The four options explained

Small formatting differences are why 'identical' lines often escape manual cleanup, so the toggles matter. The defaults are deliberately sensible for spreadsheet exports and copied columns — trimming on, blank lines dropped — while case sensitivity stays strict because in many lists 'Apple' the brand and 'apple' the fruit genuinely differ:

  • Trim spaces (on by default) — strips leading/trailing whitespace so 'apple ' and 'apple' match as duplicates.
  • Ignore case (off by default) — treats 'Apple' and 'apple' as the same line; enable it when capitalisation carries no meaning.
  • Drop empty lines (on by default) — removes blank rows left behind by spreadsheet exports.
  • Sort A→Z (off by default) — arranges the surviving unique lines alphabetically using locale-aware comparison.

How matching behaves

Deduplication keeps the first occurrence of each line and preserves the original order unless you enable sorting — so the earliest version of an entry always wins, and its casing is retained even when Ignore case is on. Matching is strictly line-by-line: commas within a line do not split items, so a row like 'John, John@x.com' is treated as one value. A reliable routine takes seconds: paste into the left box, adjust toggles, confirm the removed-count looks plausible, then copy from the right box — and keep your original paste handy until the cleaned result is verified downstream. For deeper normalisation, lowercase everything in Case Converter first, dedupe here, then restore formatting. Lists with tens of thousands of lines process near-instantly because matching uses fast in-browser hashing rather than any server round-trip.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tens of thousands comfortably — deduplication runs on-device with efficient hashing, so large exports finish in moments without uploading anything.
The first occurrence wins, and original ordering is preserved unless you enable Sort A→Z, which rearranges results alphabetically after cleanup.
Yes — switch on Ignore case and 'Apple', 'APPLE' and 'apple' collapse to whichever appeared first.
Usually invisible differences: trailing tabs, double spaces inside the line, or different casing. Trim handles edge whitespace; for inner differences, normalise your data first, or enable Ignore case.
Yes by default via Drop empty lines — toggle it off if blank lines carry meaning in your format.
No, matching is whole-line only. Split multi-value cells into separate lines first (one email or keyword per line), dedupe, then recombine.
No. All processing is 100% client-side in browser memory — your data never leaves your device.
