Who uses it and why

Cropping is less glamorous than AI cutouts but more frequently needed. Sellers crop busy backgrounds out of listings so the product fills the frame. Students crop a passport photo tighter before running it through the exam-photo resizer, since portals check face coverage. Anyone scanning documents knows the black borders and desk surfaces that arrive around the page. And social uploads look better when dead space is gone. Because the crop is computed from the original pixels — not a lossy re-save of an already-compressed copy — the kept region stays as sharp as it was.

How the sliders map to pixels

Each slider removes a percentage of the image measured from its edge: Top trims downward, Bottom upward, Left rightward and Right leftward, each from 0 to 45%. The percentages apply independently to width and height, so on a landscape photo 10% of left is a different absolute distance than 10% of top — the preview resolves any ambiguity instantly. The label beneath the preview reports the surviving region in exact pixels, which matters when a downstream step needs minimum dimensions. Sliders reset whenever you load a new image.

Cropping with intent: tips

A little ordering discipline makes crops land right the first time:

• Crop first, resize second — trimming changes the aspect ratio, so do the framing before locking final dimensions.
• For passport-style photos, leave headroom above the hair; portals commonly reject faces that touch the top edge.
• Small percentages matter: on a 4000-pixel image, 5% is 200 pixels — plenty to lose a watermark strip.
• Pushing two opposite sliders to their 45% limit keeps only the middle 10% sliver; check the pixel readout before downloading.
• Transparent PNGs stay transparent in the cropped output.

What the tool deliberately does not do

This is a straight rectangular trim — there is no free-drawn selection box, rotation-straightening or aspect-ratio template. That simplicity is the feature: four sliders cover the overwhelming majority of real crops with zero learning curve.
